I was so touched by a friend’s post on Facebook about empathy cards. What’s that, you ask? It’s designer Emily McDowell’s collection for people facing serious illnesses. Emily knows a lot about it. At 24, she was diagnosed with stage III Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

What are they like? Sassy, colorful and truthful. Where else can you find a card that celebrates, “One more chemo down!” I’ve been down this road several times and when I saw her designs I thought, “Oh I wish I had had that!” You’ll never be tempted to send a card with a rhyming message again.

If you know someone facing a tough diagnosis or if you’ve been distant, give Emily’s site a look. Someone may be waiting to hear, “I’m really sorry I haven’t been in touch. I didn’t know what to say.”

You’re working it like a Soul Boss, Emily. I salute you!
