Have you heard of Tilda Shalof?
She’s the creator of an extraordinary mural at Toronto General Hospital, constructed with clean left-over materials from her 25 years of service in ICU.
The mural was a labor of love, ultimately using 100,000 pieces from equipment and medication. As she put it together with an artist friend, she reflected on the patients she had treated over the years and their families.
To some, the reminders of care might have been painful. But Nurse Shalof spoke a blessing over each person represented. She gently says, “I treasure those memories of all the patients I’ve cared for…I hope this mural is a moment of mindfulness.”
It’s been a tough week out in the world, but she reminds us about the beauty of kindness and compassion. Nurse Shalof, we salute you!
