Three Ways to Jumpstart Your Intentions Recap

My theme for 2022 is that soft skills are as easy as 1, 2, 3! So, let’s look back at the three steps for this month.

Jumpstart Your Intentions Recap

In the January series, Three Ways to Jumpstart Your Intentions, we discussed how you can create a firm foundation for your goals. In the past, you may have felt overwhelmed with common messages like:

* You must have everything figured out on January 1

* You set your goals once and never adjust

* You’re failing unless you have fast, outrageous results

But those messages aren’t true.

Instead, you’ve seen that a successful outcome requires a strategy as well as tactics. Luckily, soft skills check both those boxes because they can work as a What and a How!

So, jumpstart your intentions by using the three strategies and soft skills tactics below. If you’d like a refresher to achieve that step, click to read the post or listen to the podcast:

  1. Stand Ten Toes Down: Choose one or two goals you can really sink your teeth into—ones where you stand ten toes down—rather than pushing yourself to accomplish 50 goals at once. Apply adaptability and creativity to shift your mindset from, “Too many roadblocks are in my way,” to “There is a path to success. I’m committed to finding it!”
  2. Have a Smart Push-Back: Reach the high-quality results you want by pushing back on less-than options. Rely on shrewd choices to transform your thinking from, “I’m accepting anything,” to “It’s ok to wait for the right thing.”
  3. Use Small Bites and Building Blocks: Give the Go Big mindset the boot. Instead, use healthy self-esteem and empathy to be kind to yourself and set reasonable expectations. There’s a funny silver lining about going one step at a time: You get daily wins as well as reaching your goal. So, switch your mindset from “I need big, instant results,” to “I need consistent results, which will add up over time.”

Set an Uncomfortable Intention—They’re Life Changing

If you’re still mulling what you’d like to accomplish this year, consider also setting an “uncomfortable intention.” An uncomfortable intention requires a big stretch, like learning something brand new or unwinding old behaviors.

For instance, imagine getting to the end of 2022 and saying this was the year you finally mastered a new skill that used to intimidate you, like giving presentations. The moment you courageously kept going, even when the path wasn’t crystal clear. And the time you bossed up by standing in your integrity and acting like the creative, wise CEO of your life—a Soul Boss. Those kinds of intentions are life changing!

Stick with your intentions—your breakthrough is just around the corner!
